Frans de Geetere (Oudergem, 1895 – Paris, 1968) was a French speaking Flemish artist who came to Utrecht at the outbreak of the First World War and experienced his formative years as a painter there under the influence of Erich Wichman, Janus de Winter and Theo van Doesburg. Between 1916 and 1920, De Geetere made fascinating paintings and drawings that, in their own unique way, anticipated the surrealism that developed in the 1920s and 1930s.
